Mary E. Saey
February 15th, 1937 – August 9th, 2024
Saey, Mary E. (nee Sherman) passed away peacefully at home on August 9, 2024.
Mary was born to James and Marie Sherman on February 15, 1937. She was a
graduate of De Andreis High School. She had been married to her husband, Thomas
(Larry) Saey for sixty seven years.
Mary spent many joyful years assisting the patients in the Dental Offices of Dr. Harry
and then Drs. Jeff Dalin and Dr. Jim Feigenbaum. She truly enjoyed each interaction
and the conversations she had with both clients and her work family.
Mary also enjoyed volunteering for her parish, St. John Bosco. One of her many
volunteer efforts was the SJB Blood Drive. Donors and volunteers still talk about the
spread of food and drinks that Mary would prepare for everyone to enjoy after their
donations.
Mary was an active woman and enjoyed the company of her elementary school friends, The Engelbelles and friends from the Red Hatters, but Mary’s main focus was always her family. There was never a game, performance or party that she would miss and many of her grandchildren’s friends and teammates adopted “Nana” as their own. Mary was truly a loving person, and she played the role of “Mom” to many.
Mary is survived by her husband Larry, her children Diane (Chris) Lehr, Thomas
“Tom” Saey Jr. and Sharon (Pete) Abel; Grandchildren Josh (Brittany) Martz, Julie
(Ryan) Sumner, Dan Martz, Emily (Keith) Miller, Nikki (Bobby) Chartrand, Emily (Chad) Hughes, Tommy (Abby) Saey, Zach (Alex) Abel, Molly Saey and Kimi Lehr. She is also survived by twenty-two great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her foster sons, Wayne and Donald Crew.
On Friday, August 23rd, Visitation will be at 9:30 am & Funeral Mass at 10:30 am, both held at Incarnate Word Parish 13416 Olive Blvd., Chesterfield, MO 63017
Interment at Bellerive Gardens following the Funeral Mass.
Contributions in Mary’s Saey may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital
Lovely words for a life well lived. You are missed by many, Mom, but I know this next part of your journey will be the best one yet and forever.
Mary, you will forever be in my heart, you taught me what family could be like, showed me respect, appreciation and integrity. You invited me into your home as a friend of Sharon’s, let me stay many a night for all of these things I’m forever greatful. You were the “MOM” of the neighborhood and did it with delight and grace. I wish I could be there, but you and the family are in my prayers at this time. R. I. P. ( Wish I could give you a big hug you were known for, right NOW )
My sympathy–I went to grade school with Mary–part of the Engelbelles. May she rest in peace! Alverta Haberstroh Abbott
My sincere sympathy to your family. She was a wonderful lady. May she rest in peace. I will remember her in my Masses and prayers.
Fr. Joe Weber
The last pastor of St. John Bosco.
Mary was such an good person! I was so lucky to get to visit her this past year. A wonderful neighbor to have growing up. Always kind and generous. She would give great big hugs and ask you about your day. She was special!
Mary was my neigbor my whole childhood, till i left home.
Based on her advice, I used her dental office
She was always happy , always showing off that million dollar smile.
She was just a rare person who injected your day with any interaction.
She made my childhood better and I was lucky to know her.
I grew up on Epernay Court next to Mary and Larry. Mary was always so sweet to me and my brother and sister. She was a wonderful person and neighbor. I will miss seeing her on my visits back to see my parents who still live there. Thank you Mary for always being so kind hearted.
My dear sweet Mary, a wonderful neighbor and dear friend for over 30 years. I will miss our talks and visits so much. The world has lost a bright light, but her legacy of love lives on.
Blessings to all the Saeys.
Mary was a beautiful, loving woman, always generous, always helpful and always caring and enthusiastic.
Mary and Larry, like us, were original owners on Epernay Court, but they had moved in first so when we moved in, they invited us over for a wonderful dinner and a get to know each other party. Having them as such good neighbors was a joy our whole family has appreciated throughout the 45+ years since. How thankful we are to have known Mary because she was such a bright light in everyone’s life. Her sweet smile and loving spirit lives on in our hearts and memories.
