Mary Scott
Mary King Scott, 92, died peacefully surrounded by her immediate family in Saint Louis, Missouri on December 15, 2024, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Joyce and James Bliss of Fort Lauderdale, FL, her two grandsons, Austin James Bliss of Beijing, China and Thomas King Bliss of Morris, CT and her brother Patrick Joyce of Galway, Ireland, and her sister-in law Mary Joyce of New Hampshire. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Austin King, her second husband Robert Scott, her sister Peggy Joyce, and her brothers John Joyce, Michael Joyce, Peter Joyce.
Mary Joyce was born in Cloonacarton, Connemara, Ireland on November 6, 1932, to Delia and John Joyce.
Sponsored by her uncle, she immigrated to the United States when she was 16 years old. For her voyage to New York her mother sent her off with one key instruction for the journey: to order the same meal as the passenger sitting to her left, so that she would know which cutlery to use. She was a stickler about table settings for the rest of her life. Upon her arrival she initially resided in Boston, MA and worked at the State Street Bank. She soon met her first husband, Austin King, and moved to Scituate, MA. She resided in Scituate, and Cape Cod for many years and later in life she moved to Florida to help raise her Grandsons. Her final 8 years were spent in St. Louis, MO where she could be close to Joyce, Jim and Austin and Thomas Bliss. She was a trailblazer and brave women who loved her family and friends immensely. Mary always kept her Irish wit until her last days. Mary will be missed dearly by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
