Matthew Donovan
Matthew Donovan, 72, passed into glory on June 2, 2026. Beloved husband of 48 years to Catherine Donovan; Loving father and father-in-law of Nathan Donovan (Laura), Timothy Donovan (Lisa), and Katya Donovan; and loving grandfather to Sophia, Charlie, Elijah, Micah, Emmett and Josiah.
Those who have gone before Matthew include his father, Charles Donovan; his mother, Rita Lorraine Donovan; his brothers, Mark Donovan, Daniel Donovan and Luke Donovan and his sister, Mary Donovan.
Matthew came from a large family in which he was 5th out of 9 siblings. He was reserved and quiet but spoke with wisdom and patience. Matthew became a devoted follower of Jesus Christ in 1976. In 1977, he married Cathy who was one of 9 siblings herself. He enjoyed fishing, reading his Bible and had an excellent skill at researching anything. Matt was an integral part of CHRIST THE KING COMMUNITY CHURCH, Webster Groves. He leaves a strong legacy of faith and devotion to his family, that will endure for many generations.
One of Matthew’s favorite verses was… Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.” He truly believed and lived knowing that no matter what life threw at you, trusting God through it was always the best choice. He will forever be loved and missed.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Matthew will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Christ the King Community Church, 9018 Big Bend Blvd, Webster Groves, MO. Visitation is from 10:00am to 11:00am, the service starts at 11:00am. A luncheon will follow the service.

Matt was a precious friend of our family! He was soft spoken, but he listened well, and spoke with wisdom, discernment, kindness and compassion! He had a wonderful laugh and smile and sense of humor! Whenever he would see me he would say, “Hello Stephen!” I typically go by Steve, but he made me feel loved and respected. He & Cathy have been with me and my folks through many trials, ER visits and surgeries. Have visited us at home, in the hospital and rehab hospital! I wrote in a card to Cathy and the family recently that I had no doubt he heard the words from Jesus, “Well done good and faithful servant!” And that the crown given him to be thrown at the feet of Jesus would be very heavy the jewel’s inlaid in it! I am so honored to have known him and to be his friend! Till we meet again brother!
We mourn the loss of a truly beloved uncle whose gentle spirit, soft-spoken nature, and unwavering devotion to Christ touched everyone who knew him. He lived his faith daily, showing kindness, humility, and love to family, friends, and strangers alike. His quiet strength and compassionate heart were a reflection of God’s grace. Though our hearts are saddened by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that he has entered into the presence of his Savior, whom he faithfully served throughout his life. His legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
