Max R. Frederich

Max Richard Frederich passed away in April 2021 at the West County Care Center, St. Louis MO. Max was born in August 1953, grew up in Mehlville, and was a proud graduate of Washington University with a AB in Earth Science and a MA in Education. While at Washington University, he and brother Mike were both active members of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Max taught Earth Science in many St Louis Area school districts, including Clayton, Brentwood, McCluer, and Ferguson-Florissant.

Max was an avid fisherman, pursuing and occasionally catching trout at Maramec Spring, Bennett Springs, and Montauk State Parks in Missouri. He shared his love of reading in general and science fiction in particular with his family and students. An avid tinkerer and craftsman, Max was forever creating unique handcrafted gifts for everyone around him. Max will always be remembered for his humor, optimism, creativity, and for his years of service to his many students in St Louis.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Richard (Rick) Troupin, an old TKE fraternity brother, who helped Max at the end of his life, visiting often even during the pandemic and helping him connect with family members remotely.

Max is survived by his daughter Gretchen, his brother Mike (Betty Diane), his nephews Jason (Rozilynn) and Bert (Shirin), and his godparents Richard and Gloria Margold. He follows his mother Alvera and his father Bert into a better life.

Mr Fredrich was my 8 th grade science teacher.
A truly caring individual who always stood up for the underdog.
A person who enriched everyone’s life he touched.
God bless you Max, you were the best teacher I ever had.
