Mayda Vigil

Mayda Eulalia Vigil-Fernandez, 76, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on September 3, 2024. A loving wife, mother, sister, and abuela. Mayda’s life was defined by her faith in God and the joy she brought everyone she met. She thought of others first throughout her entire life, starting with her family, whom she loved dearly and sacrificed for daily.

Mayda was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 45 years, Joaquin. Together, they nurtured a loving family, including their three children: Eddie (Jen), Victor (Tori), and Ricky (Charlotte). Her grandchildren were the love of her life. Her already larger than life smile only got bigger when she was with her 4 wonderful grandchildren: Javi, Manny, Nina, and Zoe. Mayda and her only sister, Emilia Fernandez, will forever be in each other’s hearts and souls after 76 years together.

Mayda was a devout Catholic forever dedicated to her church, family, and friends.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate Mayda’s life will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024,  at 11:00 am at St. Justin the Martyr Catholic Church, 11910 Eddie and Park Road, St. Louis, MO 63126 with a Celebration of Life immediately following in the St. Justin the Martyr gym. All are welcome at both the Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life. If you are unable to attend the Funeral Mass and would like to celebrate with the family, please feel free to stop by the Celebration of Life from 12:30 – 4 pm as we would love to see you.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Catholic Charities Home – Catholic Charities of St. Louis (ccstl.org) or the American Cancer Society Donate Today | The American Cancer Society. Mayda so deeply appreciated all that Catholic Charities does for the underserved of our community.

Good people leave us, but they surely leave with many happy memories that always soothe our hearts. Mayda was a wonderful, beautiful Lady full of love and life. She will always be remembered because she had a special place in her heart for everyone, she befriended but especially those of us that loved and cared for her.
Nothing will ever replace the space in your heart that she occupied. If you keep that space filled with her memory and your experiences together, she will always be there with you.
May Our Lord ease the pain you are feeling over your mother/ grandmother’s passing and bring you peace, comfort and strength in ways that will see you through. May her soul rest in peace. I know Joaquin Enrique is happy because he is back with Mayda, the love of his life that truly dedicated herself to him, her children, grandchildren and everyone else.
We are sorry for your terrible loss and extend our deepest condolences to you and your family.

PS: Jorge and I are deeply saddened to hear about Mayda’s passing. We just found out and were never advised about her sickness. She is at peace now and that is what’s important.
