Melissa Nieberding

Melissa Nieberding died on November 12, 2023, at her home in O’Fallon, Missouri.  She was born on July 23rd, 1951 to Benton Howard Brothers and Amanda Jean Perrett Brothers in Shreveport, LA.

Melissa enjoyed a happy youth in Arizona where she graduated from Agua Fria High School and went on to the University of Arkansas. She was able to successfully combine her sophisticated and critical aesthetic with her passion for the golf industry and home furnishings with notable jobs as Head of Merchandising at Palo Alto Country Club, Partner at Geared for Golf and “Head of Merchandising” at Soft Surroundings. Melissa also found great fulfillment in owning and operating her own home furnishings store in Hilton Head Island in the 2000’s.

Always early to rise and remain busy, she clearly had three favorite pastimes that served as comforts throughout her life. She learned to love needlepoint and counted cross stitch from her mother early in her life, completing dozens of pillows and artworks into her 70’s. As an avid golfer, she carried a single-digit handicap most of her career with a notable club championship at Moss Creek in Hilton Head. She also adored her dogs – from her golden retriever and Airedales to her Wheaton Terrier, Maggie.

No one brought fun and warmth to a room like Melissa. Her guests were welcomed and delighted by her considerable southern charm. With a chardonnay in hand and infectious laugh, she will be remembered for her kind hospitality to all.She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers; Jon Matt Brothers and Joseph Clayton Brothers.

Melissa is survived by her stepchildren, Jeffrey and Matthew, her daughter in-law, Julia, her grandchildren, Jeffrey and Eleanor, her brother, Michael and sister-in-law, Jane, her brother-in-law Douglas and sister-in-law, Angela, her sisters-in-law, Carrie and Linda Brothers and nephews Ryan, Rand, Clay and Alex Brothers and families.
