Melvin Freese
Melvin died peacefully on October 4, 2018 at his apartment in Creve Coeur, MO.
Melvin is survived by his two daughters, Karen Wise (son-in-law, Daniel Wise) and Lori McGivney (son-in-law, Damir McGivney), his two sons Rick Corcoran (daughter-in-law Mary Corcoran) and Craig Corcoran (daughter-in-law Danna Corcoran) and his niece Kathy Cook Wyble and nephew Charlie Cook. Melvin was a devoted grandfather to Nicholas Wise, Michael Wise, Bradley Wise, Shelby McGivney, Sierra McGivney, China McGivney, Matthew Corcoran, Michael Corcoran and Patrick Corcoran and great grandfather to: Madison Arias Wise, Levi Wise, Jack Corcoran, Luke Corcoran and Harvey Corcoran.
Melvin was born on July 12, 1930 and lived his entire life in St. Louis, Missouri. In addition to his mother, Vera Freese, Melvin was preceded in death by his first wife Joann and second wife Georganne, as well as his adoptive parents, Harvey and Anna Cook. Melvin was a beloved brother to Harvey Cook, Andrew Cook and Charles Cook and brother-in-law to Kathleen Cook. Melvin was preceded in death by his niece Charlotte Cook Hagemeier and his very close friend Felix McCarty. Melvin was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Melvin was a proud veteran and served his country in the United States Marines. After his military service, Melvin began what would be a 40-year career with McDonnell Douglas and Boeing in St. Louis. After retirement, he enjoyed many days of volunteer work for Wings of Hope.
Melvin enjoyed woodworking in his well-equipped shop, and bird watching. He and Georganne traveled the U.S. and other countries on bird watching excursions. They enjoyed this so much, that together, they developed a small business designing and constructing bird houses. Over the years, Melvin accumulated an extensive collection of cigarette lighters that he proudly displayed in cases he designed and built himself.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Wings of Hope in St. Louis or the charity of your choice.
A memorial service and burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will be private.
