Michael (Mike) McEvoy

Age 73, passed away peacefully at his home on January 29, 2021.

Mike was born in St. Louis, MO to the late Jim and Marie McEvoy. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (nee Imholtz) for 51 years. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Martin and Thomas, survived by brother Lawrence McEvoy (Donna), brother-in-law August Imholtz (Clare), sisters-in-laws Peggy McEvoy and Vicki Easterling, twelve nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

Mike was born and raised in South St. Louis city. He graduated from Epiphany Catholic grade school, Bishop Dubourg High School and Rockhurst College, adding a Masters of Education from the University of Missouri at Columbia. He played soccer, basketball and baseball throughout grade school, basketball all four years in high school and college and started every game. He played on the 1964 State Basketball Championship team, was selected to the all Catholic Athletic Conference first team in his senior year and was elected to the Dubourg Hall of Fame.

Mike’s professional career included a physical education instructor, guidance counselor and coach at Hancock, Pattonville, University City and Special school districts, as well as St. Richards and St. Blaisé elementary schools. He continued his love for sports and fitness after college with participation in basketball, slow pitch softball, volleyball, cycling, jogging (including one marathon), weight lifting, wind surfing, aerobics and yoga. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening. Throughout their marriage, Mike and Barbara enjoyed many vacations to far off places.

Family, friends, sports, teaching, coaching, counseling, vacationing and gardening were his life. Everyone who met Mike enjoyed his great sense of humor.

You are loved and will be missed. See you down the road.

Barbara deeply appreciates the compassionate care that Mike received from Mercy Hospice, Griswold Home Care and his treasured friends.

Mike has generously made a gift of body to St. Louis University. A burial service will be held at a later date. Please consider making a donation to the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) or the Humane Society of Missouri.

    Knew Mike at Pattonville Heights and later at the high school. He was a great counselor, coach, and after HS became a good friend.
    My heart goes out to you Barb.
