Micheal Paul Zimmer

On Saturday, September 19, Mike passed away peacefully surrounded by family following a long battle with COPD.

Mike was born on October 20, 1952 to the late Melvin and Verona Zimmer. He is survived by his son, Mike Zimmer, Jr. (Karla Koch). He was a loving grandfather to Brett, Drake, Luke and Mike III (Samantha) and great grandfather to Mia and Haley. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kay Stanford, and survived by his sisters, Patti Lewis (Steve Verderber) and Vicki Cox (Ben). He was a nephew, uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Mike retired following a career as a union painter which took him to Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi. Upon returning to St. Louis, he worked as a contract painter at various area locations.

Mike was a past-President of Lakewood Improvement Association in Affton, Missouri where he spearheaded a major remodeling project of Lakewood Hall and organized various fundraisers.

Among Mike’s several hobbies was fishing with his buddies at Lake Wappapello and Toledo Bend. He was a huge Broncos fan, a love he developed while living in Denver. Mike was also a very passionate rock music fan. Attending concerts was a favorite pastime, and he never missed a Sunday morning listening to the K-She Klassics.

Mike worked hard, played hard and enjoyed life to its fullest. His favorite quote was a line from his favorite song, “… What a long strange trip it’s been.” RIP Mike. You will be missed.

The family would like to thank the compassionate nurses and doctors in the SLU Hospital ICU as well as St. Louis Cremation and Mid America Transplant. As an organ donor, Mike was able to give the gift of sight to a person in need.

Services will be private.

Loved ones are not forgotten as long as there is a loving family who remember them. Sympathy from our family to your family.
