Minnie Mae Simmons

Minnie Mae McClure Simmons was born the 2nd child in Cleveland, Mississippi on Thursday, December 5, 1940 to the union of Elzia and Ella Graves McClure. Her mother, father, two sisters preceded her in death.

On Sunday, February 3, 2019, Minnie, beloved of God, took sweet sleep in the arms of Jesus at the Manor Grove Nursing Home in Kirkwood, Missouri. She made her peace with God.

Minnie was raised in Cleveland and Clarksdale, Mississippi. She accepted Christ at a young age at Union Grove Baptist Church in Cleveland, Mississippi.

Later, Minnie’s family relocated to St. Louis, Missouri and she received her education in the St. Louis Public Schools. She graduated from Hadley Tech High School in 1959. She received her formal training as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Minnie was gainfully employed at DePaul Hospital in the pediatrics department and later was promoted to the billing department. She retired after 35 years of service.

On April 29, 1962, she united herself in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life Mr. William Calvin Simmons II. They were married 56 years and was blessed with one son, William Calvin Simmons III. Minnie loved her son unconditionally.

In 1970, Minnie joined Truth Tabernacle Church, where she was affectionally known as “Sister Minnie” for over 40 years under the leadership of her brother-in-law, Dr. Ulysses and her sister-in-law, the late Dr. Norma Jean Simmons. She remained faithful in attendance until she was physically challenged. Minnie loved her church and respected the anointing that was on her life. Minnie witnessed and experienced the power of healing in her life many times under their ministry. Her favorite song was “I Still Have Joy” by Dorothy Norwood. Her love for this song was a true sentiment of her heart, she said, “after all I have been through, i still have joy!”

Minnie enjoyed traveling and eating good food. She loved being in the presence of family and friends. Her favorite color was red.

Minnie leaves to cherish her precious memory and celebrate her life; a loving a husband, William Calvin Simmons II; one dear son, William Calvin Simmons III; two grandchildren, Jordan Simmons, Sierra Simmons; One great-granddaughter, Kenydee; Brother Elzia (Karen) McClure and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews and an array of relatives and friends. (special accolades to her best friends: Martha Turner and LucyAnne Hillard; Stacy Cummings, for her kindness)

I offer my condolences to the Simmons family. I did not have the honor of meeting her personally, but as a member of the community want to let you know someone cares. May you comfort one another and most of all be strengthened by our Heavenly Father. He invites us to throw our burdens on Him and He will sustain us. Psalms 55:22

I have been without words since the moment my Auntie/Mom left this Earth.
I take comfort in knowing that she is no longer bound but free in the Arms of our God.
She was such a light, I will treasure her sense of humor, her sense of style and her love for God and the love she had for her family and friends.
I was born 4 days after her, something she reminded me of often ??. I enjoyed talking with her about her love for baseball and always asked her how she made that fried chicken taste so good.
So many wonderful memories. I loved the times she visited us in California and loved seeing how she and my mom( her sister) loved each other and talked all the time.

She has left this earthly realm, her work is done, she kept the faith and now she has entered her rest.
She will be forever in my heart and Uncle William and family you will be in my prayers. I love you much, wish we could be there with you today.

I wanted to take this time to convey my sadness over the departure of Minnie Mae Simmons. I met her through her niece, Selena during my highschool years in Webster Groves. She became a second mother to me, and a dear friend to my parents. Mrs. Simmons always radiated a beautiful light from within. She was a very calm, sweet spirited, and gracious woman. I will never forget her delicious lemon icebox pies, collard greens, and potato salad. Rest in God’s care Mrs.Simmons, you are free from the troubles of this world. The Turner Family will miss you dearly! We love you!
