Mrs. Omeater Atkins

Mrs. Omeater A. Atkins was born (August 5, 1926) fourth child born to Sonnie and Rebecca Reaves. She was one of nine children. She is preceded in death by her husband Marvin R. Atkins Sr., her parents Sonnie and Rebecca, seven siblings; Isabella, Nathaniel, William, Ocie, Dorothy, Floyd and Johnnie –Lee and great grandson Darren Jr.

Omeater moved from Clarendon, Arkansas to Cleveland, Ohio where she met and married Marvin R. Atkins Sr., a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. They were married twenty one glorious years before his death. Omeater and Marvin were the parents of three wonderful children; Mary Ann, Marvin Jr., and Daryl. She was an active member at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Cleveland Ohio for nearly 50 years. She proudly served on the kitchen committee and was a longtime member of the senior choir. Omeater worked for many years at Leo’s Beauty Salon. She later moved to the Fashion Industry and worked at Brook’s Clothing Store. Omeater moved to St. Louis, after having a stroke in 2003. She lived with her Granddaughter Carmen and her extended family the Cunningham/Redd family.

Omeater was loved by many. She leaves to cherish her memory sister Learlean Watson ( Adolphus), daughter Mary Ann, sons Marvin Jr. ( Michelle) and Daryl, three granddaughters, four grandsons, four great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

The Atkins Family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to her adopted granddaughters, Deborah Draine, JaTina Harrison, Lynn Reese, and Tressie Spears for being there with her family in her final hours. Special thanks to the staff of NHC of Maryland Heights Family for helping to make her transition peaceful.

Visitation: Friday, December 7, 2012, at St. Louis Cremation 2135 Chouteau Ave. St. Louis, MO 63103 from 3-5 pm.
