Ms. Hortense Antonia (Hunter) Turner

Ms. Hortense Antonia (Hunter) Turner was born on the 6th day of January 1934 in the city of Meridian,
Mississippi to the union of Landis Hunter and Colleen Brown-Barney. She is preceded in death by her
parents, sisters, brother, and her grandson Michael Clark.
She was reared in a loving and close knit family. Being raised mostly in the south while spending her
summers in Madison, Illinois and Detroit, Michigan. Hortense had a joyful spirit and was happiest when
she was surrounded by her family and friends. One of her last joyful memories with her family was the
weekly dinner night.
Ms. Hortense Turner, known to her family as Toni, began her adult life in St. Louis, Missouri in 1950.
Most of her adult working life was for the City of St. Louis Children’s home. After that, she took on a
position as a Marshal at the Kiel Auditorium, until she retired. Ms. Turner loved to travel, she would visit
Mississippi often to check on her property, and her annual visits to Kentucky and the Lake of Ozarks.
Hortense confessed her life to Christ and was a member of the St. Alphonsus Liguori Rock Catholic
Church. Furthermore, she was a member of the Red Hat Society, Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri.
On Saturday, February 13, 2021, Ms. Turner departed this life as she knows it to be with her Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ.
Hortense leaves to cherish her memory: daughter Gail Clark-Ramseur of Lovejoy, IL and son Kevin
Turner of St. Louis, MO. Her grandchildren Janenia Kelley of Venice IL., Patrick (Bridget) Ramseur of
Racine, WI, and Tyler Turner of St. Louis, MO. Her eight great- grandchildren and two great-great
grandchildren. Special nieces Kelly Breckenridge and Bettina Huston. A host of nieces and nephews and
many God-sons from the St. Louis Blumeyer.
