Mueller, Charles

Charles J, Mueller, Jr. was born March 9th, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri to Delores (nee Amsinger) and Charles J. Mueller, Sr. died suddenly Thursday, April 7th, 2016 at his home in Ballwin, Missouri at the age of 68 years and 29 days. Loving husband of Jackie (nee Ruesing), father to Vicky (Rodney Bradley) Mueller and Chris Mueller, stepfather to Tori (Duncan McPherson) Haller and Heidi Haller. One Granddaughter, Ava Haller and half-sister, Carol (Ed) Miller. He was a retired from Sprinkler Fitters Local 268 with a career that spanned over 37 years.

He was known by Chuck, Charlie, or Sonny – depending on where you knew him from.

The old neighborhood, where he grew up in North City off Grand Avenue, is where he was known as Sonny. He was raised by his father and Grandmother, Anna Mueller, after his mother passed away when he was just a year old. He had many colorful stories about his grandma and her sisters, the odd jobs he had as a young man, and his friends that he ran with. He lost both his grandmother and father just a few months apart in 1976 & 1977, such a young age to lose his parental support.

He was Chuck in his later teen years when he ran with his cousin Dennis Dean, who lived in U. City. That’s where he met his first wife, Donna Newberry. He was drafted into the Army during Vietnam and served his time in Germany. Before he left for Germany he married Donna. After they returned to the states they settled down in Hazelwood and had two children. The family moved to Ballwin, MO in 1985.

He had so many friends, whether it be at the Ellisville Elks Lodge, the Ballwin VFW post, or other establishments, everyone knew Charlie. He was quick witted, loved to share jokes and always had a story to tell. He lived his life on his terms. He loved to spend time with his family, watching Nascar, going fishing, playing shuffleboard and so much more. Since early 2015 he had been taking care of his wife, Jackie, who is suffering from cancer. He doted on her and loved to make sure she was comfortable and had all she needed. His sudden passing is so shocking to us all.

I will miss my dad so much. There was never a phone call that did not end with “I love you”, he was never afraid or ashamed to show his feelings. He was a great dad, he always said there was no handbook on raising kids but he was doing the best he could. You did great dad, I’m so proud to call you my father. I hope in the future that it doesn’t always hurt this bad when I think about him, I can’t imagine that it can subside and the lump disappear from my throat and the tears stop flowing so easily. – Vicky

My dad was a kind and generous man. He always tried to make people smile and laugh. He was a positive influence on those whose lives he touched. He would not want his friends to dwell with sadness on his absence from our lives, but rather remember all the fond memories with a smile and warm heart. I will deeply miss my dad. – Chris

A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, April 14th from 4pm til 8pm at Schrader’s Funeral Home, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, MO 63011.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Chuck was a truly great person and I know that he and my dad had a great many adventures or misadventures depending on how you looked at it. I never understood growing up,why they called him sonny but I know that it never seemed like he missed visiting on holidays or special occasions. He was a very kind and thoughtful man and he always had time to listen to a joke or to tell a funny story.

Charlie was always a decent, caring person. It didn’t matter what the circumstance, Charlie loved unconditionally and was always concerned with how others felt. We will miss him terribly. Love and prayers to Jackie and the entire family.
