Officer John Cottom

John E. Cottom, Sr. passed away on April 29, 2014.
Caring husband of 55 years to Carol (nee Souris); outstanding hero/dad to John Jr. “Jay” (Donna), Mark and Cheri (Kevin) O’Moran; loving and giving grandpa to Kayla Cottom, and Mark & Michael O’Moran; cherished brother and brother-in-law of Mel “Ray” (Lisa) Cottom, Joe (Nancy) Souris, Dianne (Paul) Frazier and Mike (Mary) Souris; our beloved uncle, great-uncle, great-great uncle, cousin, nephew and friend of many.
John was a police officer for 48 years, 34 of those with the city of Crestwood. He retired in 2010 at the age of 70. John was often referred to as a hard working “old school” police officer. Though he never walked a beat, he made an effort to know the citizens of the community. He was not only there to protect and serve them but also to know them as people. No matter what the situation, he always tried to be fair and just in his professional and personal life.
Services: Per his wishes, no services will be held. Memorial contributions can be made on behalf of his grandson, Michael O’Moran, to the Children’s Tumor Foundation, 120 Wall St., 16th Floor, New York NY 10005-3904
