Pamela Poindexter

Pamela Faye Hinton Poindexter was born January 3, 1965 on a cold blustery day at St. Anthony’s hospital in St. Louis, Missouri to James Anthony & Alice Faye Everton Hinton. Pammy was a happy, bubbly, curious and friendly child and charmed all who met her. She was christened at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and embraced her faith all her life. She attended Immaculate Conception School her first and second year then completed her schooling at the public school graduating from Montgomery County R-2. She was the proud mother of Kyle, Clayton, Caleb and Whitney; and enjoyed her siblings Karen, Angel, Jamie and Aaron. She was a very proud grandma of Bryson whom she dearly loved and adored. She was employed at The Kerry Group in Fenton and they became her beloved extended family. Many happy hours were spent with her “families”, friends, neighbors and her dog Haley and Rocky the cat.
On November 27th at St. Anthony’s Hospice DeGreeff Hospice House with her family by her side, Pamela lost her hard fought battle with cancer and joined in heaven her father James and brother Jamie. A celebration of life service followed with internment in Montgomery City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice DeGreeff Hospice House, 10010 Kennerly Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63128.
She loved her family and friends and always was ‘mothering’ everyone. She loved her pets, was a social butterfly, enjoyed movies and reading, talking on the phone and shopping with her daughter and friends. Growing up Pam loved gardening with her dad and enjoyed swimming in the lake with her family and friends, riding her bike, catching lightening bugs in the summer, playing hide and seek and holidays were her favorite times of the year with family and friends. She loved school because she loved making friends and just having a good time with everyone, she enjoyed playing powderpuff football in school. The season, fall, was Pam’s favorite time of year although she did love a snowfall sitting with a hot cup of cocoa and watching from her window. She loved sipping her tea (she was never without her glass of tea). Pam loved cooking and trying new recipes.
Pam would try to help anyone and always put everyone else before herself. She was loving and unselfish and had a big heart. She always smiled and laughed, her eyes twinkled with happiness and love and she always had a positive outlook. She worried about everyone, even in her illness she didn’t think of herself, always everyone else.
Pam would not want us to grieve for her but celebrate her. She’d tell you not to cry it is all ok and to wipe the sad long faces off. She loved life and is in heaven free of pain and suffering. She is at peace.
Pam’s dad always prayed with his kids every evening at bedtime and taught them a prayer that was recited to Pam before the Lord called her home:
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John,
Bless this bed that I lay upon,
Four corners to my bed, Four Angels ‘round my head,
One to watch, one to pray, two to carry my soul away,
I go by sea I go by land, the Lord made me with His right hand,
He is the branch and I am the flower,
I pray God to send me a happy hour,
And if I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.
Amen.
God blessed Pam with wonderful friends and family to which she is now looking down and still smiling with eyes twinkling happy that she had all of us in her life and knowing that she still is part of our lives through love, laughter and memories.
Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry.
I am not there, I did not die.
