Patricia A Rehm

Patricia A. Rehm (Nee Holtzclaw)

March 26th 1938 to April 19th, 2019

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Richard Rehm, by only 29 days. She was a mother to Jeff (Sharon), Pamela Steinkamp (Larry), Laura, Dan (Beth). Grandmother to Benjamin Steinkamp (Ashley), Bradley Steinkamp (Amanda), Laura Steinkamp, Nathan Steinkamp, Leslie McQueen (James), Becky Schuettenberg (Ryan), Emily Smith (Kyle), Alex Rehm. Great Grandmother to Parker, Logan, Bailey, Breonna, Bricelynn, Makenlee, Oliver, James III (Tre) and Ryan Jr. (R.J.) Brother to Tom Holtzclaw (Janet) and the late Bill Holtzclaw (Sue). She was an aunt, cousin and friend to many.

Pat and Rich met when they were 13 and 11 years old. They were high school sweethearts and were married on September 28, 1957. Together they raised four children. Pat had many jobs along the way including being a telephone operator and working at Famous Barr Department Store. When her children were all in school she got a job with the St. Louis Public Schools so she would be off during the summer months with the kids. She did a few different jobs for the schools and finally settled in to working as the secretary for Visual and Performing Arts High School, a job she loved and worked for many years. She knew every students name and they knew her. As a working mother she still found time to be both a Girl Scout leader and den mother for the Boy Scouts. She always said that the key to 61 years of marriage was separate vacations. She did not share the love of the outdoors that Rich did. She would much rather be at Bally’s Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. She loved the lights and glamour and made a yearly trip with her daughter Laura and her friend, Marsha.

Pat and Rich moved from their home to Garden Villas Retirement Community where they spent the last 2 ½ years along with their lifelong friends, Kurt and Kathy Zickler. She made many friends there and enjoyed playing bingo a few times a week. As her health issues began to pile up, she said she was going to keep walking until she could no longer do it. And although she spent the last few years in considerable pain, she still lived life to the fullest. She always said that her and Rich were going to go together. It turns out she was right. Rich died March 21st and she followed just 29 days later. They are back together where they are meant to be. She lived this life giving unconditional love to her family and friends. They say that you have to be a parent to your children and not their friend but somehow she managed to be both.

Pat was wonderful sister to me and someone that my wife Janet was delighted to meet and know. She did an amazing job raising her children and being a great partner to her husband Rich for so many years. We miss her now and always.

My deepest sympathies, I had the pleasure and privilege of working with Pat at Central for many years. It was amazing how much work we got done when we were having so much fun. I missed her when she retired and I will miss her even more now. She was a great lady. She loved you all very much, she talked about her family all the time. I loved very much and think of her often.
