Patrick Francis Rice

Patrick Francis Rice was surrounded by his family and closest friend when he entered
eternal rest with our Father on Sunday June 20, 2021. He was born on October 30,
1942, in Madison, Wisconsin. Pat was preceded in his death by his parents Bernard and
Shirley (Robinson) Rice.

Pat is survived by his wife of 57 years Mary Helen Rice, children Shirley Rice Van
horenbeeck, Keith, and Michelle (Rice) Lage, his 4 grandchildren Allison Van
horenbeeck, Gabe Van horenbeeck, Adeline Lage and Alivia Lage, as well as his
brother Tom and his wife Barb, nephews Ryan, and Christopher and wife Angie Rice.

Pat lived a fulfilling, and successful 78 years and recently shared with us that “It’s been
a good run”. He will be missed dearly and cherished always. Pat’s strong-willed nature
was key to raising and leading his children to independence and success. He was a
veteran of the US Military Naval branch (1962 to 1967) and he sailed on the USS
Sablefish SS 303 and the John Marshal (a nuclear-powered submarine).

Pat had two life-long best friends that loved him and are like family, Al and Sherry
Kenyon.

Services will be publicly held on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Saint Alban Roe Church,
located at 2001 Shepard Road, Wildwood, MO 63038. Mass will be held from 1-2 PM,

My love and condolences to Helen, Shirley, Michelle and Tom.

Pat was like my brother, we met 60 years ago this month at submarine school in New London, Connecticut. We served together through submarine school, qualified in submarines together on the USS Sablefish and lived together through one year of nuclear power school.

I went to Pat and Helen’s wedding in Portage, Maine by driving up from Florida.

My family and the Rices were close friends with the births of our three children and throughout our years after serving together.
