Paul Craig

Paul Craig, 58, of St. Charles, MO, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2022.

Paul was born in 1964 in Rockford, IL, and grew up in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated from Purdue University in 1986 with a degree in Computer Science. His passion for programming began in high school when he took a computer class and joined the computer club, and knew immediately that’s what he wanted to do for his career.

His first job out of college was at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis (now Boeing Corp.). At that time the company hired many college graduates, and that is where he met the love of his life Patty, although he didn’t know it right away. Patty asked Paul out on their first date in October of 1987, and the rest is history.

Paul and Patty were married on March 18, 1989, and enjoyed 33 years together raising their three children. The two of them loved going on adventures together, camping and traveling around the country, and into Canada and Mexico. They also developed a taste for fine wine and loved visiting wineries. The family enjoyed many vacations and that love of travel was passed to their children. After their children were grown Paul and Patty continued camping and traveling, even as he was battling cancer. Their recent trip to Florida would be their last, as Paul entered hospice soon after their return.

Paul worked in the information technology field for several companies in the St. Louis area through the years, finishing his career at RGA for the last 11 years. His hobbies included home improvement projects and playing board games.

Paul is survived by his wife Patty (nee Gither); his children Lauri (Will) Reinking, Jeffrey (Amber) Keller-Craig, and Matthew Craig; his parents Maura (Tom) Benner and J. Thomas (Stella) Craig; his siblings Diane (Ron) Milgate, Peter (Julie) Craig, and James Craig; and three nieces and a nephew.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Maurice and Ruth Garrison, and Iva Opper.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 – 5:00 pm at Sugar Creek Winery in Defiance, MO, on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Hilltop Pavilion.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the David C. Pratt Cancer Center at Mercy Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

    To Paul’s Family,
The time I spent working with Paul at RGA was great. We sat across the isle for years and worked on many projects together. He will forever be special in my heart. You never know how many tears you have until you lose a family member. My prayers go to your family in this time of loss.

Paul, I have known you longer than I’ve known my husband. You have always been a wonderful husband, father and friend. It’s no secret that at times we didn’t see eye to eye, often times putting Patty in the middle, but it’s only because we were honest with each other and in the end, we knew each squabble was out of love. I’m going to miss you more than you know. I promise with every fiber of my soul that I will do everything I can to support your wonderful wife and amazing kids…even the one that married THAT guy 😂. (Inside joke).

Good bye my dear friend, you will be missed ❤️

    Dear Paul’s Family,

I was lucky enough to work with Paul at RGA and conversations would often turn from work to family. Paul would smile and have a twinkle in his eyes when he spoke about you. My deepest sympathies and prayers for strength and peace.
