Hello, I don’t know who will be reading this so I will assume no one knows me. I grew up in St Louis, south of Carondelet Park about a half block from the Payne family on Upton St. I first knew Dick as Dean’s little brother. Dean and I were the same age and the three of us played together. We were friends all through elementary school. We grew apart after elementary school. Dick and I became friends again my senior year at Cleveland High School. After I graduated and went away to college we saw each other very little but occasionally met when I came home, I think the last time I saw Dick was in late 1969. We were together when the lottery system for the draft was held and was on TV. Dick wasn’t worried because he had been in the navy already. I was worried but drew a high number and was never drafted. Dick was one of the people I always meant to look up but never got around to it. I hope he had a happy life and I wish I could have connected with him again. I am sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Bob Bauer

My sincere condolences to each of the Payne family on losing your brother Dick. I think the last time I saw any of you was in the sixties, Donnie and his wife and kids at a lake house. Bill and I were there with our baby daughter Wendy. She is now 48 and we also had two sons. I remember the fun we had at the house On Upton and the house in the country…your cousin Steve and the speedboat at Clearwater and the Pine Hill drive-in. I missed the funeral for Dick by a day and am so sorry . Fondly, Carol
