Peggy (Haley) Brose

Peggy Lynn (Haley) Brose, 74, of Chesterfield, Missouri, left this earth on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at her home surrounded by family who loved her more than anything. She was born on November 21, 1945 in Fulton, Missouri, a daughter of the late Jack and Evelyn (Carrington) Haley. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Martin Brose. She is also survived by daughter Julia Wilke (Stephen) and son Jeffrey Brose (Allison), both of Saint Louis. She was preceded in death by her sister, Kathy Haley. She is survived by siblings Mary (Haley) Hall, Barbara (Haley) McGrath, and Charles Haley. Most importantly, “Hootie” (her “grandma” name she chose herself, because she was definitely a “hoot”) adored and was adored by her five surviving grandchildren (Aerin, Kenley, Layla, Luka, and Lydia). She attended William Woods College in Fulton and eventually settled in Jefferson City, where she and Martin spent over 30 years. She loved her family and her friends. She loved to entertain and host family and friends, especially during holidays. She was a creative mom who encouraged imagination; she told original bedtime stories every night, encouraged pillow fort building, and created scavenger hunts throughout the home. She believed in being kind to everyone and had a talent for making friends wherever she went. She loved meeting up with her friends for Arris’ Pizza. She volunteered in the schools and took joy in making sure the kids and teachers were supported. She had a part-time career as a travel agent and took great care in planning dream vacations for her clients. She loved a good joke and could play a mean game of Pinochle. She especially loved hugs from her grandkids. Her earthly departure leaves a gaping hole in our hearts; however, her personality and spirit were so bright, we know she will live on. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of donations to Saint Luke’s Hospital of Saint Louis as they cared for her so well these last years. She would also remind you to always write thank-you notes, no matter how small the gift. She had the most beautiful handwriting. In light of the current social distancing guidelines, the family will postpone a celebration of her life until a later date.

Peggy will be missed. She was a kind and selfless soul and she also had a fantastic sense of humor. My mother always considered Peggy a dear and true friend. Her handwriting was beautiful as you mentioned and we appreciated her talent as she addressed all of our wedding invitations many years ago. Prayers and peace for your family. How blessed you were to have a such a beautiful human being in your lives for so long.

Ask your Dad if it would be ok to place the obit in the Jefferson City newspaper. Both of your parents were/are well liked and had/have a lot of friends here.

Marty, Julia and Jeffrey… It has been a long time since I have seen Peggy but there are some people that come into your life that are never forgotten. Peggy was a wonderful friend to me and we had many great times with East School activities. I remember her welcoming smile and kindness to everyone. I feel fortunate to have called her my friend. I hope your heart fills with all of her love and good memories.
Love to you all, Cheryl Bodenhamer
