Phyllis Dunklee Welsh
Phyllis Dunklee Welsh, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on June 6th, 2025 at the age of 74. Born in Providence, Rhode Island on January 3rd, 1951 to Thomas and Jean Dunklee, who preceded her in death. She grew up as an Army brat and was the youngest of four sisters, Betty (Harry) Canfield, Pat (the late Leonard) Schoeman and Priscilla (David) Trask. She traveled to many places as an Army dependent and graduated high school in Taiwan. While her father was stationed in Newport News, Virginia, she met her husband, William Welsh, during a first dance. She followed in her Army father’s footsteps and enlisted in the Navy to pursue her future husband. She became a dental technician in the Navy.
Phyllis was a devoted mother to three children Tommy (Leigh Ann), Corey (Molly) and Kathleen, always present with a listening ear and a supportive heart of their many ambitions. She cherished her family and often spoke with pride of her grandchildren Leann, Brian, Brandon, Tommy Jr., Matthew, Abbey, Rachel, Brenna, Erin and her great-grandchild Paisley. She was also passionate about being a stay-at-home mom, horseback riding, spending time at the beach, volunteering at the Red Cross and as a room mother for children’s school parties.
Her family will celebrate her life on June 14th in St. Louis, Missouri. In the near future, a private ceremony to scatter her ashes at one of her favorite places in the Gulf off Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Phyllis is my baby sister; she is loved and we will miss her terribly. We four girls were close sisters, always enjoyed being together, our lives growing up, and hearing from each other as our families grew. We shared the advantages of living in so many places and all the new experiences afforded to us being Army kids. Phyllis will always be in our hearts.
I will miss my baby sister and friend. My heart is broken. We cling to each other for comfort
My Aunt Phyllis and my Uncle Billy were my heros growing up. Others had Super Man or Batman. These were mine. They had time for me even though I was just a kid. They were both beautiful inside and out and they made be feel special. I will miss my Aunt Phyllis until I see her again in heaven
I love my sweet beautiful baby sister. I’m so grateful she has always been a part of my life God bless her and you all
