Richard Alvin Witt

Richard Alvin Witt, 94, of Dupo, Illinois passed away June 21, 2019 at Mercy South Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Richard was born September 18, 1924 to the late John and Dora (Dilks) Witt in Northcutt, Missouri.

Richard was a WWII Army Veteran. He served in Europe in the 391st Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion and was Honorably discharged at Jefferson Barracks in February 1946. Richard worked for General Motors for 30 years primarily at the Fischer Body Plant in St. Louis.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Pamela, his brothers, Walter, Sam, Bruce, Charles and sister Josie.

Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice ( Armistead) Witt. He is also survived by his son Richard (Patsy) of Missouri, daughter Brenda (Michael) of Illinois, daughter Connie (fiance Dustin) of Illinois, and daughter Tammie (Ronnie) of Missouri. His is survived by his grandchildren, Michael, Crystal, David (Becky), Richard, Candace, Samuel, Logan, Ryan, Eric, Steven and Randall. Richard is survived by five great grandchildren, Madeleine, Sophie, Brendan, Taylor and Cadence. Richard is also survived by his brothers, Harry, Donald and Jerry.

Richard’s favorite hobby was fishing. The stories were true. He enjoyed his family very much and you could count on him for a spirited game of Spades or Yahtzee. He was very knowledgeable in many areas and was always willing to share that knowledge when you needed help. He was a good neighbor and great friend to all who knew him and his presence will be sorely missed.


A memorial service will be held at 10AM on
Friday June 28th at the chapel at Jefferson Barracks.
Go rest high on that mountain, Richard. Your work on earth is done

    My heart breaks for you all! Richard was one of the greatest men I knew.. they just don’t make em like him anymore. Sending my deepest prayers to you! He will forever look down on you all. Love you all!

    What a great neighbor and a friend. I will miss those chats we had when I would see him out & about or working…. Thoughts & prayers go out to the family..
