Richard Balcom Philbrick

May 13, 1944 – December 12, 2024

Richard Balcom Philbrick passed away at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer. His final moments were peaceful and in the presence of his loving family.

Born in Fort Walton, Florida to Richard Warren Philbrick and Elizabeth Balcom Philbrick, Richard grew up living in many places which included St. Louis, Cape Cod and Iceland. He was a dedicated student, as well as an accomplished athlete, most notably when it came to skiing. After graduating from Harvard University with a degree in physics, he served as a captain in the United States Airforce. After returning to civilian life, he pursued his interests in science and engineering, serving as a research associate at the University of Arizona. There he met Barbara, and they were married in the Spring of 1975. They had three children: Eric, Brian and Jessica.

Richard loved travel, history, classic films and above all else, his family.

Through his example and wisdom he was able to pass his finest qualities on to his children; to Eric, a sense of duty, to Brian, creativity, and to Jessica, compassion.

He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Lesley. He is survived by his loving wife and children, and two grandchildren, William and Lilliana.

As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Richard has left a legacy of dedication and integrity that inspires all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
