Richard Lee Holtmann
Richard Lee Holtmann, born on September 27, 1941, in St Louis, Missouri, passed away at the age of 82 on August 14, 2024, also in St Louis.
He was a beloved husband to Joyce ( Knoernschild) for 56 blessed years, a father to Shelly Fiedler and Julie Rauh, father-in-law to David and Nathan, and Grandpa to Aaron, Lauren, Madeline, and Ben. Richard also leaves behind his younger brother John; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Leon and Mary Jane Knoernschild; niece and nephews Kevin, Steve, Katie, and Andrew along with many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Elaine Holtmann ( Koepke).
Rich graduated from Pattonville High School. He served our country in the National Guard for 7 years. He began his college education at Central Methodist University and then transferred to the University of Missouri, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. This paved the way for success in both his accounting and entrepreneurial ventures. Richard started his career and eventually became a partner at Coopers & Lybrand. He then followed in his father’s footsteps to own and operate The Typehouse Inc, a typesetting and large format printing business, from 1984 until his retirement in 2008. Despite his demanding career, often working 60-70 hours per week, he always made time for his family, friends, and church, embodying the values of hard work and community.
Rich’s gentle smile, giving heart, and a gift for telling it like it is were well-known among his community. He expressed gratitude frequently in his last days for his blessings and the impact each person had in his life. He cherished all these moments that his friends and family provided. His hobbies included travel and enjoyed trips with his girls, his neighbors and his friends from Sigma Club at Christ Memorial. He also enjoyed a good game of golf, a passion he shared with his father and continued into retirement.
A man of faith and family, Rich was a cherished member of Christ Memorial Lutheran Church, where his life and legacy will be honored on August 24, 2024. Visitation will be at Christ Memorial from 9-11 am with funeral immediately following. The church is located at 5252 South Lindbergh Blvd. Saint Louis MO 63126.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Christ Memorial Fitness Center where Rich volunteered for many years. Gifts may be directed to the church at the address above. Memorials may also be made to the Make a Wish Foundation of Missouri/Kansas, another organization whose mission Rich valued and supported.

I am so sorry for your loss. Rich was a very nice man. Your family are in my prayers in this time of sorrow. I wanted to come to the wake but I have to work. Rich will be missed.
Joyce, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I’ll always remember how Rich provided me with a daily “cheer-up” game of Name That Tune when I was recovering from surgery. He’ll be missed by all who knew him.
