Richard P. Carroll
Mr. Richard P. Carroll, age 97, of Jefferson City, MO passed away Monday, January 31, 2022, at Meramec Bluffs, Ballwin, MO.
Richard was born December 25, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was married on June 2, 1946, in Belinda, Iowa to Cumalene Wood Carroll.
He was a 1942 graduate of Chariton High School, Chariton, Iowa. Following his graduation, Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corp reporting to San Diego, CA for basic training. He served during WWII in the South Pacific as crew chief for General John Moore, chief of staff for the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and Marine Air South Pacific.
Following his honorable discharge, Richard completed his Bachelor’s degree from Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa. He then completed his Masters of Jurisprudence from Drake University in Des Moines. Richard worked for Farm Bureau Companies, Silvey Companies, and CIE as legal counsel until he retired in 1994.
As a resident of Jefferson City for over 60 years, Richard was an active member of the First Christian Church where he was an Elder Emeritus. He volunteered with numerous projects at the church including the Food Pantry in his later years. He also was a member of the International Rotary Club.
Richard enjoyed helping Cumalene with her craft business, especially the woodworking crafts. He loved traveling, visiting family, and the family tradition of camping at the Iowa State Fair for over 70 years. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and being an awesome “Grampa” to them all.
The family would like to share their appreciation for the faithful support of their First Christian Church family, Hospice Compassus, and the loving care provided by the Heisinger Bluffs Riverview staff.
Richard was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Cumalene. Survivors include son, Rick Carroll (Janet) of Estero, FL; daughter, Lori Hoover (Doug) of Ballwin, MO; grandchildren, Blair Carroll (Christel) of Boston, MA; Casey Campbell (Cory) of Springfield, MO; Amy Reagan (Kenny) of St. Louis; Andrew Hoover of St. Louis; great-grandchildren, Austin and Madelyn Carroll, and Carter Reagan. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to First Christian Church, Jefferson City.
