Robert Russell Heckmann

Robert Russell Heckmann, 90, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, February 19th, 2022.  He is survived by his wife Catherine A. Heckmann; children John K. Heckmann (Stacy), Edward S. Heckmann (Kris), Kirsten E. Heckmann (Kristian); stepchildren, Sarah Harper Burke (David) and Matthew Harper; and eight grandchildren, Grant T. Heckmann (22), Megan M. Heckmann (20), Trevor R. Heckmann (20), Allision G. Heckmann (16), Isabella A. Benson (14), Luke J. Heckmann (14), Devin M. Burke (14) and Samuel A. Benson (8).

Born on March 23rd, 1931 to Marie Rehm Heckmann and Walter O. Heckmann.  Bob was a graduate of Clayton High School and attended St. Louis University before being drafted for the Korean conflict where he served in the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps, stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana. 

Serving as President of Walmar Investment Company, founded by his parents in 1953, Bob had a passion for commercial real estate development. 

Bob was an avid equestrian breeder and continued his hobby of raising and racing thoroughbreds for over forty years. A consuming passion, he dreamed of winning the Kentucky derby.
