ROBERT “BABY” SPANN EL

Robert “Baby” Spann El. was born on January 22, 1956 in St. Louis, MO to Flora Lee Spann and John nie Mack Spann II (whom preceded him in death). He was the second born of nine children, He was preceded in death by his Brother Johnnie Mack Spann III.

Baby attended Soldan high School in the 70’s and there he became an avid reader, great calligra pher and artist. He also crafted his love for music at that time, along with his cousins, they created the group called the “The Devine Five” where they would compete in talent shows at school and around the neighborhood. The members included “Robert Brooks, Tommy, Keith and Kenneth Hatten, Aldo Reed, Michael Irons, Johnnie Spann and other family members as time went on and they still sing today.

Baby became a devout Muslim in the late 70’s where he would study from the Koran and learn about Islam, he was always about “PEACE AND LOVE‘ and would often leave conversations with that ending. He had a love for music that was con tagious and if you were ever around him he would start singing and then other people would just start singing as well, but you had to sing on the right note or he wasn’t having it, he was funny that way.

Baby leaves behind to cherish his memory his Mother: Flora Spann, his son: Robert Spann Jr. (Ni cole) his daughter: Torrey Murphy. Three grandchil dren: Aniya, Corice, & Deavion. Siblings: Patricia Davis Chandler (Darnell), Richard “Onion” Spann, Lamont “Jug” Spann, Glenn Spann, Charlene “Angel” Mckinney (Keith), Lisa Jones (Dennis), Rosie Mitchell (Sheldon) and Eric Spann (Katrina). 11 nieces, 10 nephews and a host of other family and friends.
