Roy Dossett
Roy Dossett, age 97, of Maryland Heights, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 10,
2025. He was the beloved husband of Lola Belle Parrish Dossett, devoted father of three,
and cherished “Granddaddy” to a family who loved and respected him greatly.
Roy was born on April 4, 1928, just prior to the Great Depression. He was raised alongside
his younger sister, Mary Lou, by their parents Roy Robert and Eva Blanton Dossett. At age
18, Roy’s father, a policeman and his lifelong hero, passed away unexpectedly.
Through determination and hard work, Roy pursued higher education at Lincoln Memorial
University in Harrogate, Tennessee, and later earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
Following his graduation, Roy was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He served stateside, teaching math to GI Bill veterans. During a military leave, he met the
love of his life, Lola Belle Parrish. They married and shared more than 65 years together, building a family and a legacy rooted in love and faith.
Roy practiced engineering across Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, and Missouri. Eventually, he established Dossett Engineering in Maryland Heights. His career as a professional structural and civil engineer spanned nearly 50 years and left a lasting mark on his community.
Music was one of Roy’s greatest joys. As a young man, he sang in an ensemble at the
Hollywood Bowl. Later, he shared his gift of music in the choir at Village Lutheran Church in Ladue, where he and his family worshiped. For almost 39 years, he was also a proud member of the St. Louis County Community Chorus.
Above all, Roy valued family. For more than 30 years, he sponsored annual reunions,
bringing generations closer together. His grandson once said: “You three (Melanie, Timothy, and Kanina) share an absolute legend of a father. He set the tone for family relations and success that are unprecedented.”
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; Roy Robert and Eva Blanton Dossett, and his sister; Mary Lou Dittmer. He is survived by his-daughter and son-in-law; Melanie and Scott Campbell of Platte City, his son and daughter-in-law; Timothy and Tacy Dossett of Ballwin, his daughter and son-in-law; Kanina and Charles Hadel of Gainesville, Texas, his grandchildren; Aaron, Carman, Zachariah, Jackson, Grace, Maxwell, Kailyn, Katriel, Colin, and Eva and his great-grandchildren: Catherine, Shannon, Marie, Haley, Conner, Mia, Kalia, Eliana, and Amelia.
A private family service will be held to honor Roy’s life and legacy.
