Ruth D. Green
Ruth D. (Josiger) Green, 82, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013, at Delmar Gardens on the Green in Chesterfield, MO. She was born to the late Bruno and Margaret (Prellwitz) Josiger in Wausau, WI, on September 7, 1930. She was a 1948 graduate of Wausau High School. A veteran of the Korean War, she served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1959, during which time she was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. Achieving the rank of Airman First Class, she received an honorable discharge from the USAF in 1959, after which she entered the U. S. Civil Service. During her years of government service, she worked at various posts world-wide including Saigon (Vietnam), Bangkok (Thailand), Kwajalein (The Marshall Islands), and Corpus Christi,TX. She retired in 1986, and moved to Honolulu, HI, where she resided until 2008, when health problems resulted in her return to the Mainland.
Ruth had a passion for travel, visiting dozens of countries and all of the continents during her lifetime. She catalogued her travels with detailed letters and pictures sent to friends and family that allowed us to share her experiences.
Ruth is survived by her sister, Lorraine (Horton) Engles, niece, Kathryn (Kirk) Lindsay; nephews, Bruce Engles and Mark (Penny) Engles; aunts, Helen (Morris) Brandenburg and Adeline (Charles) Brandenburg; cousins, Gretchen (Bernard) Jerlstrom and Karla (Michael) Westcott; great-niece, Amy Lindsay; great-nephews Marshall, Matthew, Daniel, and Keelson Engles; and numerous Josiger cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Lee Green; parents, Bruno and Margaret (Prellwitz) Josiger; brothers, Dennis and Daniel Josiger; sister, Karen (Paul) Elliott, and nephew, Marshall Engles.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Zion Lutheran Church, Wausau, WI, with visitation starting at 3:00 p.m. followed by the service at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Steven K. Gjerde will officiate.
According to Ruth’s wishes, her body was cremated and her ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean off of the coast of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. She will be recognized during a future ceremony by the USAF Honor Guard and a plaque honoring her memory will be placed at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, HI.
