Sammie Mae Caffray
Sammie Mae Caffray, nee Wolfe, of Chesterfield, Missouri passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, June 12th. Sammie was born on April 29th, 1934. She and her husband Tom created a beautiful family of four daughters. Sammie loved to spend time with friends and family, and was affectionately known as “Nini” by her grandchildren. Beautiful inside and out, Sammie was known for making others feel loved and welcomed. Her door was always open, and she was eager to share a cup of hot tea, plenty of food, and a specially saved newspaper clipping just for you. She was accepting of all and encouraged people to do whatever made them happy, as long as it wasn’t hurtful. Down to earth and absolutely hilarious, her eyes twinkled with mischief and magic that lasted to the very end. Her strength, love, and beauty were both inspirational and contagious, and that is her legacy that will continue long beyond her earthly years – empowering those around her to own and embrace their opinions and to spread love, acceptance, and kindness.
Sammie was the beloved wife of Thomas Caffray; the loving mother of Toby Thomeczek, Edye Caffray and Jimmy Hobgood, Tammy and Chuck Long, and Heather and Charlie Bruning; dear “Nini” of Samantha and Mickey Wendling, Frankie and Rob Synovec, Tommy and Karen Bruning, and Jake Thomeczek, and also her great-grandchildren Brennan, Luca, and Teddy Wendling, all of whom she loved and treasured.

I Miss Aunt Sam already.She was the coolest.The last time I saw her was at my nieces housewarming party.She greeted me with her usual:”Hello Cutie”.We didn’t get to talk much,but as usual it was fun,mischievous,& filled with smiles & laughter.I gave her a great big hug before she left.In my life Aunt Sam was always a constant presence.From as far back as I can remember:Aunt Sam,Uncle Tom,& the Caffray’s were always around.They were not only friends,but family.Whether it was the backyard pool in Bridgeton or exploring the coolest house ever on Wilson Ave. or the patio in Wildwood,it was always a good time for sure.Never forget junk shopping with Uncle Tom at antique & thrift stores only to find the coolest toy ever.A toy machine gun!Aunt Sam’s food & hospitality were the stuff of legend.Lots of cheese dip & Bissinger’s Chocolate!Their love was unconditional.They gave so much.Kind & loyal & welcomed anyone into their tribe.Miss them both.I only wish I had sent Aunt Sam’s X-Mas card to the right address last December,but I know Aunt Sam knew how much I loved her.She gave me love & support,& so much more.Luv ya Aunt Sam.My deepest condolences to the Caffray’s & Aunt Sam’s many friends.
