Sandra “Sandi” Rae Rice

Sandra “Sandi” Rae Rice passed away peacefully Monday, November 11, 2024, at the age of 67, after a quick, but hard-fought battle with cancer.

Sandi was born in St. Louis on March 24, 1957, and was the second of three children to Roy and Maxine Davis. Sandi’s life of adventure began at an early age when her father Roy’s career took them to California for three years. After their west coast adventure, the Davis family returned to Florissant, Missouri, where Sandi attended Hazelwood Central High School and graduated in 1975. Following high school, she continued her education at Southeast Missouri State University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Shortly after graduation, she accepted a job at Citicorp in St. Louis. Through Citicorp she was able to meet several lifelong friends.

Sandi met the love of her life in 1982 through mutual friends. Sandi and Jim’s mutual friends were headed for a lake weekend in Cuba, Missouri when Jim was told to pick Sandi up for the trip. This first outing blossomed a relationship that would eventually turn into marriage on August 16, 1986, and last 31 years. During their marriage they had many adventures including moving to Phoenix, Arizona for four years and welcoming their children, John Francis Rice in 1990 and Anna Mae Rice in 1994. Parenthood was the greatest of all of Sandi’s adventures. There was nothing more joyous to her than her children.

Sandi and Jim had a lifelong dream of moving to Lake of the Ozarks, a place they both frequented as children. In true Sandi and Jim fashion, they made their dream a reality and lived on the water in Sunrise Beach, Missouri. Their home was filled with love, laughter, lake guests, and, of course, their famous Friday night homemade pizza. There was nothing Sandi loved more than relaxing on the water with a Crown and Coke in hand. The Rice family thrived at the lake, raising their children, building a strong community bond, and, most importantly, connecting with friends and neighbors.

In March 2019, Sandi retired from Central Bank where she worked for 24 years. She moved to St. Peters, Missouri, eager to spend quality time with family and reconnect with many old friends.

Sandi had a big heart and welcomed two loving and crazy dogs into her home. She spoiled them with treats while they provided her with comfort, cuddles, and a crazy amount of energy. She truly enjoyed retirement, traveling with her children, attending concerts with friends, tending to her plants, and relaxing at home.

Sandi was a joy to all around her. She never missed a beat with her honesty or humor. She was a loving daughter, a loyal friend, and a kind mother—and full of life until the very end. She will be missed by everyone who knew her. She is proceeded in death by her husband of 31 years Jim Rice, her son John Rice, her parents Roy and Maxine Davis, and her sister Jan Schewe.

She is survived by her daughter Anna “Annie” Rice, her brother Steve (Marion) Davis, her brother-in-law Stan Schewe, and her sister-in-law Patti (Mike) Anderson, her nieces Amber (Dan) Hinch, Sarah Davis, Jennifer (Steven) Kray, and Katie (Nick) Rooney and her nephews Douglas (Melissa) Schewe and Matthew (Michelle) Gray, and many friends.

A celebration of life will be scheduled in early 2025.
