Sharon Proffitt-Smith

mom at 70 bday 1Sharon Yvonne Proffitt-Smith (nee Siddens), 72, of St. Louis City, passed peacefully on April 9, 2016.

She was born March 5, 1944, in St. Louis City, to Melvin Proffitt and Olive (nee Decker) Klass both of whom preceded her in death.

Sharon graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1962. She attended college and received her real-estate license. Sharon was a property manager, bookkeeper, and “jack-of-all trades.”

Sharon enjoyed fishing with her mom, playing cards with her friends and family, going to estate sales and flea markets, going to “the boat,” reading, and being a grandma. She loved the beach and traveling with her mom.

She loved animals of all shapes and sizes, so much so, that she donated money to Peta monthly. She believed strongly in public television and was an avid PBS Channel 9 viewer. Sharon donated money to Channel 9 monthly. She also loved true-crime shows, animal shows, DIY shows, and cartoons with her grandchildren. She had a tendency to fall asleep at movie theatres and wake up stating, (a little too loudly) “This is the stupidest movie ever!!”

Sharon was a beloved sister, amazing mother, incredible grandma and cherished friend.

Sharon is preceded in death by her husband Clyde H. Smith.

She is survived by her brother, Douglas Proffitt; son-Gary Siddens (Emily), daughters-Trisha Siddens (Jennifer Witeka) and Kathi Siddens (Jim Dalton); grandchildren-Benjamin, Greyson, Emersen, and Zoe. She was an aunt to Diana Weber (Jay), Stacie Constable (Eric), Stephanie Proffitt, Sarah Frey (Alan), and Kristen Secrest (Heath); and great-aunt to Madison, Caitlin, Nicholas, Shayne, Dylan, Olivia, Colton and Braylee. She was a sister-in-law to David Siddens (Linda). Sharon was also step-mother to Jimmy Smith (Laura), Gary Smith, Laura Savoca (Steve), Lisa Smith (Dallas Huff) and step-grandma to Ella, Ava, Lauren and Griffin. She also had many cousins. She will be missed by her childhood friend Diana Huff and many others.

Throughout Sharon’s life, there were sad times, happy times, and when her grandchildren were born-great times. She is loved very much and will be missed every day.

There will be a Memorial Celebration on Thursday, April 14 from 5-8 pm (with formal service at 6:30) at St. Louis Cremation, 2135 Chouteau Ave., St. Louis, MO. In lieu of flowers donations to the deGreeff Hospice House or to PBS Channel 9 would be appreciated.
