Sharyn E. Jacobsen
Webster Groves MO, Sharyn E. Jacobsen departed our world on Wednesday October 12, 2022. Born in Los Angeles, CA on August 19, 1946 to Roy and Ida Elmquist, she lived a wonderful life to be celebrated.
At the early age of 6, Sharyn knew she wanted to one day become a nurse. In 1972 she accomplished that goal and earned her Associated Science degree from El Camino College in Redondo Beach, CA. She started out as a floor nurse at Little Company of Mary working the 11pm—7am shift and quickly moved up in the ranks. After working as a Recovery Room nurse at Daniel Freeman and Centinela hospitals, she was offered a position of Head Nurse in the ER at Centinela Hospital. Not one for management and pushing papers, Sharyn went back to her love of recovery room nursing. Sharyn was a dedicated nurse for over 40 years.
Sharyn met the love of her life, Tom Jacobsen in 1996. After a long-distance romance, Sharyn along with her mother Ida, packed up and left Los Angeles for a new life in New Orleans, LA. Sharyn and Tom married in 1998 and spent many wonderful years together. Their love of travel took them around the globe to Costa Rica, Turkey, Greece, South Africa, Dominican Republic and across the United States. They shared a deep love for each other and their family.
Those who know Sharyn most certainly will know of her commitment to animals. As part of that commitment, she became a vegan, wore vegan clothing and vegan shoes. No wool or silk was to be found in her closet. She was known to carry dog food, water, and blankets in her car to rescue and bring to safety any stray animals she may come across. She once walked into a restaurant in the French Quarter to tell the manager that having the lobsters in the tank with bound claws was inhumane because lobsters are social creatures who need to have their claws to communicate.
Sharyn’s life will forever be cherished in the lives of her daughter Deborah Vasquez and son-in-law Abel Vasquez; her grandson Diego Amador; step-daughter Kirsten Jacobsen and husband Rick Dunn, grandchildren Sam and Eliza; and step-son Mark Jacobsen and wife Teri, grandchildren Sarah and Ryan Heagan, and Kate Jacobsen.
