Shelby Jean Hileman

January 10th, 1941 — March 10th, 2023

Shelby Jean Hileman passed away peacefully at DeGreeff Hospice House after a long bout with Alzheimer Disease on  March 10, 2023 at the age of 82. She was born in Tamms, Illinois on January 10, 1941.

Predeceased by Herbert Hileman (father), Edith Hileman (mother); Sisters Helen May & Shirley Rainwater; Brothers Elbert Hileman, Dave Hileman, & James Hileman.

Survived by her loving wife Sheryl Smothers of 46 years.

Lovingly remember by nieces Sandra Kendall and Barbara Hankins and their families.  Children she claimed as children of her heart:  Heather Franks and her daughter Samantha Johnson; Keith Franks and his daughter Nadia Franks.  Oldest and dearest friends Murl Lee and Jon Criswell.  Sister-in-Law Sherry Battle.  Many friends from her years at Memorial Hospital and church Lafayette Park United Methodist church.

Shelby was a respiratory technician with her favorite patients being Children and the elderly.  Shelby loved to read, draw, and study her bible.  She was happiest when at the seaside just relaxing and enjoying walks in the sand and discovering sea shells that were unique.

Service Information:

Date TBA in late May 2023 Place: Lafayette Park so we can celebrate her life in the environment that she enjoyed.

    Shorty James. She never met a dog
    she didn’t like. Shelby loved playing the game Aggravation with Sheryl and
    her best friends Murl & Jon.

    Rest in eternal peace Dear Friend.
    You will be remembered and loved the rest of my life. I cherish the many times we gathered for diners also our trip to Hawaii.
