Shirley Brown

Shirley Brown joined her Savior in Heaven on Sunday, January 5, 2025. She lived 96 years, 9 months, and 3 days. Shirley was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 2, 1928, the daughter of Paul Jerome Jackson Jr. and Hazel Jackson, nee LaBrot, who died hours after Shirley’s birth. Paul did not believe he could raise his newborn and his 14-month daughter Virginia, so the LaBrot grandparents raised Virginia, and Hazel’s sister Grace and her husband Ed Souden raised Shirley.

Shirley enjoyed volunteering in groups including USO and Red Cross. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, involved in senior adult groups, church activities, and sang in several choirs. Shirley taught Sunday School in the kindergarten department and Vacation Bible School at Fairview Baptist Church.  Shirley and her husband Harvey traveled to many places and attended many Merrill’s Marauders reunions. She went on a mission trip to Australia. She enjoyed playing cards and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball games.

Shirley was a wonderful Christian mother who loved her family get-togethers. She was loved and will be missed very much.

Shirley is survived by her three daughters Vivian (Steve) Peterson, Sue Mitchell, Bev (Clif) Ehlen, her four grandchildren Tim Mitchell, Stephanie (Darrin) Boden, Matt (Ebie) Ehlen, Doug (Cherie) Ehlen, by thirteen great-grandchildren Ashley, Brady, Kenzie, Liam, Chloe, Hunter, Masie, David, Rachelle, Daniel, Titus, Georgia, Daisy, and one great-great grandson Easton. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Harvey Brown and her parents Paul Jerome Jackson, Jr. and Hazel Jackson.
