Shirley Mae Buchman

May 7th, 1935 – August 2nd, 2024

Shirley Mae (Gibbar) Buchman, 89 of Pacific, Missouri entered into eternal life on Friday, August 2, 2024 surrounded by all of her children. She was born on May 7th, 1935, in Perryville, Missouri, daughter of Peter Leroy and Mildred Edith (Barnes) Gibbar. She is the last of thirteen siblings.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Thomas Schindler (1962-1980) and husbands, Thomas Joseph Schindler (1935-1977) and John T. Buchman (1937-1980)

Shirley is survived by five children, Theresa M. Schindler Adams (Roy), Mary E. Schindler, Joseph E. Schindler, Kathryn M. Schindler Mayer (Tim) and Michael P. Schindler. Her family expanded to eight grandchildren, Rhiannon M. Alexander, Dennis D. Alexander II (Amber), Shawn T. Kober, Nicolas J. Kober (Shannon), Nathan P. Kober (Jennifer), Brett A. Weibking, Kayla M. Thrasher and Colin M. Schindler. Thirteen great grandchildren, Dalton A. Endress (Cheyenne), Bronsen S. Lucas, Gavin G. Alexander, Lilly A. Alexander, Emme V. Kober, Ella J. Kober, Kaden P. Kober, Stark A. Kober, Gracie M. Kober, Ryker D. Sitton, Avery J. Sitton, Kelby J. Kober, Kyren D. Kober and two great-great grandchildren Sopia G. Endress and Camden W. Endress.

Her career started as a kindergarten teacher and later switched to raising and teaching her own six children. Her passions included sewing, gardening, traveling with her sisters and was known to be spotted in many parades, delivering meals on wheels or designing a costume for herself or one of her kids.  Shirley was an avid Cardinals fan filling out her scorecard for every game. She was a wonderful cook, working not only in her own kitchen, but in the school cafeteria and local senior center. Her potato salad and turkey stuffing for thanksgiving were just two of her most loved dishes. Family gatherings or adventures were always top of her list of enjoyments.

A mass at her home parish, St. James in Catawissa, Missouri followed by a luncheon and Celebration of Life at The Eagles in Pacific is planned for September 7th, 2024.

    It was always a joy to have Aunt Shirley visit us at the farm. We will miss her smile and sense of humor.
