Stephen Robert O’Bryant
January 21, 1961 – February 4, 2025
Stephen Robert O’Bryant, 64, passed away on February 4, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born on January 21, 1961, in Centralia, Illinois.
Steve graduated from Northwest County Tech in 1979 and soon after embarked on a distinguished career in the United States Navy. Enlisting in June 1979, he dedicated himself to service, earning numerous achievements throughout his career. Rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E7), he demonstrated unwavering commitment to his country. He was aboard the USS Tripoli during the 1991 mine explosion, a testament to his courage and resilience. He was also brave enough to sport a bright yellow tattoo of Tweedy Bird in a sailor outfit- though he often said it was not a tattoo, but the result of Tweedy Bird himself flying right into his arm!
While stationed in Southern California, Steve met the love of his life, Tammie Lynn O’Bryant, and her family. His love for her was one we all hope we find in our life, a love that will last decades of changes and challenges. A love he never replaced. In 1995, Steve and his family settled in North Idaho until he returned to his home state in 2014.
He loved to read and that was a passion he passed along to his children. Whether reading them to us, or over a tape recorder mailed hundreds of miles over the sea, he loved to read. He also loved NASCAR, Ernest P. Worrell and his little red swiss army knife. Steve’s life journey was humble and he leaves a legacy of dedication, strength, and an enduring love.
He is survived by his children, Phillip Robert O’Bryant, Lindsay Jean O’Bryant, Molly Ann Erona O’Bryant and Chelsie Lynn Roberge; his sister, DeeDee Sieker; and his mother- and father-in-law, Louise and Jim Palmer.
