Steven John Ferrill
Steven John Ferrill, age 68, of Maplewood, MO, passed away on June 1, 2023, in his home with his daughter Sara by his side. Steve was a world traveler who visited more than 60 countries, 25 states, and five continents. Steve was a dancer, a billiards champion, a SCUBA diver, a lifelong basketball player, and an avionics technician for American Airlines for more than 40 years. Steve was born February 15, 1955, the son of Bobby and Connie Ferrill (nee Logan) of Dallas City, IL. Steve graduated in 1975 from Linn Technical College (now known as State Technical College of Missouri) with an associate’s degree in Electronics.
Steve had a soft spot for animals of all kinds but held a special place in his heart for elephants. He treasured his elephant art collection, curated from all over the world. He decorated all the nooks and crannies of his home with the majestic creatures and held a solid belief that they should be treated with the utmost respect and adoration. Those who knew Steve understood not to call or visit from 4:30 to 5:00 pm because that was when Jeopardy aired; he rarely missed an episode. Steve spent much of his free time writing and authored three books, the gem of those being Game Show Trivia, which he continually updated with new editions. Steve loved trivia and at one point in time was St. Louis’s Trivia Master, hosting trivia nights for groups all over the city. Towards the end of his life, Steve considered Thailand his home and spent a significant amount of time there. It was his intention to retire there and live out his days on the beach in the Land of Smiles.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brother, Bill Ferrill. He is survived by his two children, Sara (Damon) Ferlazzo of Jefferson City, MO, and Seth Ferrill of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren: Emma, Ella, Asher, and Wren Ferrill. Also surviving are his sister Kathy Brumbaugh of Dallas City, IL; Rhonda Ferrill of Burlington, IA; Gary (Tina) Ferrill of Clifton, ME; and Greg (Deana) Ferrill of Dallas City, IL, along with many nieces and nephews spread around the United States.
Steve was cremated and his ashes will be spread around the world’s oceans. This began on July 3, 2023, at the site of his first open-water dive in the Princess Alexandra National Park of Turks and Caicos where a private memorial service was held.
I worked with Steve for several years at STL for American Airlines. Very professional and dedicated to his craft. He will be missed. Rest In Peace my friend.
