Stewart B. Dyke

Stewart Bradford Dyke, loving father, grandfather, brother, cousin and great friend to many, passed peacefully on November 20, 2024. Stewart was born in Milwaukee, WI on November 19, 1941 to parents William Vandeventer Dyke (“WV”) and Patricia Hill Stewart Dyke, formerly of Norwalk, Ohio.

Stewart graduated in 1965 from the University of Missouri School of Journalism after which he enjoyed his first job as the Assistant Director of Public Affairs at the Naval Academy. Stewart formerly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War as the Director of Public Affairs on the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany (CVA 34) from 1966-1969. The Navy then transferred Stewart to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center as Assistant Director and publisher of the Great Lakes Bulletin. After leaving the Navy he attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles as a graduate student in Journalism and Film and later returned to Illinois as Assistant Director of Media Relations at Northwestern University.

In 1973 Stewart left to serve as Director of Public Information at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. Next, Stewart worked as Director of Public Relations at Albion College in Albion, Michigan from 1980 – 1983. Stewart spent the remainder of his professional life as Director of Public Affairs at Denison University in Granville, OH before retiring at age 60. He was active in the CASE organization for the advancement and support of education and volunteered for a number of committee assignments for Chicago district meetings. In addition, he was a board member of the Granville Historical Society and Bryn Du Mansion.

Stewart is survived by brother George Dyke of Maiden Rock, WI, cousin Ann Lucas of Corona Del Mar, CA, daughters Patricia Tabor Burke of St. Louis, MO and Elisabeth Jane Dyke of New Orleans, LA, and grandchildren Sidney and Tom Burke. Predeceased by brother Duffy “WV” Dyke who died in the summer of 2020 in Durham, NC.

A memorial for Stewart Dyke will be held on Saturday, January 25th from 3 to 5pm  at the Bryn Du Mansion (west wing), 537 Jones Road, Granville, Ohio.

    I so admired Stewart. He was a very helpful board member.
    Wonderful insightful wit and so fun to be around.

    My sincere condolences to Stew’s family. He was a roommate, Beta Fraternity Brother and true friend for over 60 years. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will truly be missed.
