Susan Marie Layton (Roth)

Susan went peacefully into God’s hands on February 26, 2024, at age 74, after a brief illness.  She was born February 4, 1950, to Joseph and Anita Roth (nee Kaemer) in St. Louis, Missouri.

She attended grade school at St. Gregory Parish School (St. Ann, Missouri) and graduated from Ritenour High School in May 1968. She married Craig Kenneth Layton on June 10, 1972 and is the mother to Bridget (John Gehm); Amy and Julie (Ron Tyke). They raised their family in Dellwood, Missouri for over 25 years where she was very active with the Dellwood Swim Team, her former parish – Good Shepherd Catholic Church (Ferguson, Missouri) and her daughter’s schools – Good Shepherd School and Rosary High School (Spanish Lake, Missouri). They retired to St. Peters, Missouri, where she is a parishioner of St. Joseph – Cottleville.  She adored her two beautiful grandchildren, Reagan Gabriella Gehm and Charleston Roth Layton.

Through the years, Susan worked at McDonnell-Douglas Corporation, Quaker State Oil and retired from Washington University Medical School. She and Craig retired to St. Peters, Missouri, where Susan is a parishioner of St. Joseph – Cottleville.  She adored her two beautiful grandchildren, Reagan Gabriella Gehm and Charleston Roth Layton, who were her whole world.

Susan’s world centered around her faith, family and friends. In addition to being survived by her husband, daughters, and son-in-law, grandchildren, she is survived by her mother-in-law Jane Layton, sister-in-law Mickey Staron (Will), her nieces and nephews (Kimberly Roberts, Joshua Burris, Brian Roth, BJ Burris, Jennifer Darks, AJ Roth and Alexandra Staron), sister (Judith Burris), great-nieces, great-nephews, and many cousins. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends especially Charlie and Ann Sickmann, Kathy Nicolay, Mary and Charlie Wikoff, and Pat Pfaff. She is preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law Charlie Layton, brother Bill Roth and brother-in-law Brad Layton.

Susan’s funeral is set for Monday, April 15, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (1355 Motherhead Road, Cottleville, MO 63304). The celebration will begin 9:30-10:30am for a family/friend gathering (in Church vestibule); 1030am Mass Celebration and 11:30am Luncheon in the parish hall.

    We were very saddened to learn of Susan’s passing. Susan, Judy and William were our closest cousins growing up, and we shared many wonderful times. Anita and Joe were my God parents.
