Susan Scott

Ms. Susan Mitchell Scott Clossum passed on September 8, 2021 at the age of 84.

Born April 7, 1937 in Deeson, Mississippi to Willie Mitchell and Cornelia Scott, Susan grew up in a large loving family, which included four brothers and three sisters: William Junipero Franklin, Fanny Mae James, Curtis Mitchell, Beulah Mitchell, Charlie Mitchell, Larry Mitchell and Dorothy Mitchell.

Susan moved to Missouri as a young child and to St. Louis as a teenager, where she met Roosevelt Josh Clossum. She and Roosevelt were married for six years and had two children: Rodney Lance and Rhonda Marissa Clossum.

Four years after her divorce, Susan was able to buy her lifelong home where she raised her children. An independent, determined and resourceful woman, she raised her two children on her own working for the City of Saint Louis as a clerk and for Western Union. She instilled the value of education in Rodney and Rhonda who both would go on to earn Master’s degrees.

Susan loved to sing. Her children grew up in a home filled with the music of Johnny Mathis, Dionne Warwick and The Supremes. A spiritual person, she often attended Unity Christ Church. And she loved to move about. She worked out and continued to walk a lot every day.

She is survived by Rodney and Rhonda, her children; Jennifer Clossum, her daughter-in-law of 31 years; her granddaughter Camille; and her younger sister Dorothy of Indianapolis, Indiana.

There will be a private virtual service for the family on 9/18/2021. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a monetary donation in Susan’s name to any dementia organization.
