Thomas H. Lowery
Thomas H. Lowery of St. Charles, MO passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at SLU Hospital from complications related to congestive heart failure and cardiac arrest. He was 74 years old. We all miss him so very much already.
Tom was born in St. Louis, MO and grew up in a large family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Loretta Lowery. He is survived by his brothers Dan (Joy), Mike, and Pete (Cathy) Lowery and sisters Mary Joyce Yager (Raul) Peralto and Anne (Mick) Andersen.
Loving husband and best friend for 49.5 years of Sandy Anne Lowery and beloved Dad of Bryan (Karen) Lowery, Elaine (Jeff) Dauer, and Rachel (Ryan) Shakofsky. Cherished Papa of Samantha, Tommy, Kara Anne, Leo, Max, Kate, Lainey, TJ, Will, Sadie and great grandkids Charlie, Georgie and Henry.
Tom never met a stranger; he made friends everywhere he went. He had a unique way of establishing an intimate relationship with all who knew him. From his childhood neighborhood in Riverview Gardens through Rosary High School, Tom created and maintained lifelong friendships. He joined Sheet Metal Workers, Local Union #36 at the age of 24 and was proud to work alongside his brother Pete as a fellow tinner. The friends he met on the job became like brothers to him—and their families became like his own.
In 1978, the Lowerys moved to St. Charles, where they established their family home. He loved his Church friends and school picnics, coaching soccer, Cardinals baseball, and drinking beer with family and friends. Throughout his life, he loved boating and took on the challenges of the Muddy Mississippi with a smile on his face while watching his kids and grandkids play on the sandbar. You could often find him at the Lake of the Ozarks, enjoying weekend getaways with the Zwilling clan. The Lowery house on Scott Circle provided Tom with unlimited access to the best neighbor in the world, his great friend Darryl, for over 35 years. He also lived next to Sandy’s sister, She-She, whom he loved dearly but would playfully tease to no end. In 2003, an unexpected elbow injury on the pirate ship in Aruba ended his work career, allowing him to start his self-established mission as a supervisor, world traveler, life consultant and care giver. Tom was a constant companion to his mother, Loretta, in her later years and was a full time loving Papa.
Tom had a very strong will, a playful sense of humor, and a quick wit. Most of all, he adored his wife Sandy Anne and they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together on July 7, 2023. He felt that his biggest accomplishment was the family he and Sandy created. He also designed and built the Lowery Family Farm near Hermann, a project that he poured his heart and soul into. In doing so, he created a beautiful place for his family to have fun and celebrate life’s events together. It is a true legacy for the Lowery family for generations to come.
The family will have a Memorial Mass on Friday, January 6th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in St. Charles, MO at 10:30am. After the ceremony, all are invited to a luncheon to celebrate Tom at Tony’s on Main Street in St. Charles from Noon until 3 PM.

My brother, Tom, aka Butcher, was my baby from the time that he was born until his passing. He was a loving bright spot in my life. I will treasure always he and Sandy bringing our family together on Christmases and summer get togethers either on “the Sandy Beach” yacht or poolside at their home. I will always also treasure his unexpected phone calls and the wonderful visit this past summer to East Hampton

Kudos to whoever wrote the obituary. It captured what a great guy Tom was. He was loved and will be missed by many.
I remember him fondly as a young boy, and finally, as a wonderful grown man. I am happy that I was able to share a luncheon with him in the past year after so many years. My prayers are with his dear family.
My Uncle Tom was one of the most hilarious, gregarious characters I’ve ever met. When my dad and him were together, it was literally like watching a comedy duo, my dad the straight man, and Tommy the funny man. I can distinctly remember sitting outside Tom’s house with the two of them, belly laughing so hard at their banter that my face and sides hurt. Much love to my dear Aunt Sandy and my sweet cousins – I can’t wait to squeeze you all tight this weekend.
We loved Tom and enjoyed spending time with him. He always treated us like part of the family. We were so happy our daughter, Karen, married into such a great family and had a wonderful relationship with Tom. We will miss him.
Uncle Tom was always such a generous and loving person (and very funny). He had that thing Grandma had where he always made you feel special and important to him, even though he had so many people in his life he loved. One time in college my dad and I were visiting and he went out of his way to help me finish a project I had to do. He had a big beautiful heart and a life to match. Our family will have great memories from the many family gatherings, pool parties, etc. We always felt welcomed and enjoyed spending time with the Lowery family. May Tom rest in peace. Condolences to Sandy, Elaine and the whole family.

This is such a beautiful tribute to Thomas. The love he shared with Sandy is a perfect example of what “true love” really is. Similarly, the love he had for his family and friends showed us all the depth of his being and character.
His picture is exactly as I remember him. I agree, one of the things he loved best was to gather around and have a “session” with whomever was there with him – family and/or friends. His stories, adventures, advice, and opinions would keep us entertained for hours. There was never a doubt that he cared for us deeply.
I know it is always said, but he will remain with us… in our hearts and souls. I’m sure the “remember when….” stories will begin and carry on for years.
He was a giant of a man, with a heart as big.

Dear Sandy, I am so sorry for your loss. I will never forget Tommy’s giggle. I will always remember the love that he had for you and your family. I am so glad that I named our only son after him.
