Thomas James Herkenhoff

Thomas James Herkenhoff passed away suddenly on December 12, 2015 in St. Louis after battling with heart problems for the last couple of years.

Thomas was the beloved husband of the late Susan Herkenhoff (nee McGee) and the dear son of the late Bernard George Herkenhoff and Viginia Ellen Herkenhoff (nee Higginbotham). He leaves behind his loving daughter Hettie (husband Devon) Baird; his cherished grandkids Calyb, Darryn and Maelynn; his caring siblings Regina Herkenhoff, Bernard (wife Cathy) Herkenhoff, Cathy (husband Ron) Ernst and Christine (husband David) Vollenweider; as well as many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many really good friends and fishing buddies.

Tom worked at the St. Louis Metropolitan Sewer District in for 35 years before he retired from their construction department. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved hot rods. People will fondly remember Tom as a great human being who loved and cared for everyone, but most especially his family. The love that he showed to them was quiet but steadfast and strong. He was also the type of guy who knew no stranger. His friendly nature extended to everyone he met and he was known to help anyone who needed it, even if that meant giving the last nickel out of his pocket.

Per Tom’s wishes, the family will be celebrating his life in private.
