
Timothy Paul Burns
Timothy P. Burns, 62, formally of Granite City, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri, died Friday, July 11, 2025 at HCA Florida Northwest Hospital, Margate, Florida.
Tim was born October 17, 1962, the youngest child of the late Donald (Ike) and Edith (Gerry) Burns. He grew up in Granite City and was a proud Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville alumnus, earning dual Master Degrees in Education and Administration. He was a Special Education Teacher with Granite City, School District #9 for almost 20 years. He moved to the Soulard neighborhood in St. Louis and worked for another 10 years as a Special Education Teacher for the St Louis Special School District. He completed his career as an Education Specialist for the Department of Veterans Affairs, St. Louis, Missouri.
Tim served in the US Navy from 1985-1989, where he met his wife of 27 years, Cindy Ann Burns (nee Dolen), of Spokane, Washington, who preceded him in death (February 24, 2014), as well as his parents, and his nephew, Blake Tidwell.
Surviving are his daughter, Grace Anne Burns (fiancé’ Brett Davis) of Granite City, IL, his brother Steven (Tracy) Burns, sisters Lynn (Bob) Canada, Mary (Alan) Benko, of Granite City, Il, and Donna Burns, of Kansas City, Missouri. He was a beloved uncle to eight nieces and nephews; Rob (Chris) Canada, Laura (Tom) Cell, Karree Ann Tidwell (Jarod Patten), Sarah (Keith) Donohue, Brandon (Eileen) Burris, John William Burns and especially Elizabeth (Vince) Sigite.
Tim Burns will be remembered for his warm heart, generous table, and the love he shared so freely. He had a passion for travel and history, and an incredible trivia ability. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and his many, many friends. In his honor please gather around a table together for a meal and tell stories. Tim was a great story teller.
Private internment services will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

To my dear cousin Tim, it was a privilege to have become such good friends with you & to finally meet you here in Ireland. I loved the stories & I am really going to miss you.
