Thomas “Tom” Hervey

Thomas “Tom” H. Hervey, 77, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis after a brief illness.

Tom will be buried at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27 with a Celebration of Life to follow at the American Legion Hall in Soulard.

Tom was born Sept. 4, 1940 in St. Louis, but spent most of his childhood in Beaufort.

Tom graduated from Union High School in 1958 and Westminster College in 1962 where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Upon graduation from college, he entered the U.S. Army and served three years in the Military Police Corp in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Captain in the US Army in 1969. Tom was extremely proud of his military service.

Tom enjoyed many activities, but most of all he will be remembered for his storytelling and his love of family and friends. His children and grandchildren were the joy of Tom’s life. He was happiest when surrounded by them.

Tom resided with his wife in Columbia at the time of his death.

Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Martha; their children, Katherine Siddens, Brian Hervey and his wife, Erin, and Laura Brayton; grandchildren, Benjamin Siddens, Lauren, Lindsey, and Brendan Hervey, and Mia Brayton. Tom is also survived by his brother, Bill and his wife, Jeanie; and sister, Lynne and her husband, Del Rinne.

Tom was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen; and his mother and father, William and Alice Hervey.

In addition to his family, Tom was loved by many friends and associates. He will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched.

The family would like to thank the staff at Columbia’s Veterans Hospital, along with the staff at Barnes, for their care and compassion. We would also like to thank all of the friends who have reached out to help our family during this difficult time.

In Tom’s memory, the family asks that any donations be made to Central Missouri Humane Society, Mid-America Transplant or Disabled Vets.
