Vernon E. Overy

Vernon E. Overy passed away in the wee small hours of Friday morning, June 20, 2014 at the age of 85. Son of the late Edwin H and Agnes (Schroeder) Overy, he is survived by his son Edwin (Liz) Overy, daughter Carrie (Terry) Flick, daughter Cynthia (Michael) Mohrhard and son Christopher Overy.

Vern enjoyed the friendship and companionship of beloved grandchildren Brett and Kelly Overy; Matthew, Bradley and Alex Flick; Stephanie and Rachel Mohrhard; and Ashley, Lauren, and Meghan Overy.

Vern spent his professional career in the insurance business specializing in loss control for the Missouri Inspection Bureau, Continental Insurance (Continental Casualty / CNA), and Aetna / Cigna Property and Casualty Insurance. His territory afforded him the opportunity to make countless friends in Southern Missouri and the Ozarks.

He had many passions including his love of dogs, tennis, and music. Tony Bennett, Matt Munro and Dean Martin could always be heard when Vern was around, but his love of Frank Sinatra was without equal. In fact, it was Mr. Sinatra who sang our father to sleep.

A private ceremony will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 25th. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, our father would appreciate donations to the Humane Society of Missouri or the American Cancer Society.

VO, you were a great teacher at Continental! Although I don’t drink Vodka Martinis I’ll have one for you the next time I’m out–with a twist.
