Walter E. Pattee
Walter E. (Bud) Pattee Jr. was born May 16, 1933, in Cranford, NJ, and passed peacefully on September 13, 2015. At the time of his death he was a resident-patient in the Delmar Gardens care center n Florissant, MO. His parents were Virginia Elizabeth Umsted Pattee and Walter Emerson Pattee.
“Bud” was an excellent high school student athletically and academically. His success resulted in his acceptance to Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He transferred to Michigan State University when his family moved to Michigan in 1952. He received his undergraduate degree from MSU in 1961. He took a break from academics to serve in the US Army from July 1956 through May 1958 when he was honorably discharged from active duty. In the service he was a member of the Army chorus and traveled widely in Europe performing for US troops and their families.
After graduating from Michigan State University “Bud” relocated to Burbank, CA where he joined Lockheed Aviation and worked as a CAD/CAM specialist in the early days of computers. It was in the LA area that he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Wolfe, an actress and model. “Liz” and “Bud” enjoyed many years together until her death February 15, 2004. At the time of “Liz’s’” passing, “Bud” had retired from McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, MO.
“Bud” was an Eagle Scout, president of his class in high school, his church youth group, active in MSU intramural track and soccer, in addition to his academic excellence. He maintained a lifelong love of education taking master’s courses at University of Southern California. He was a member of the American Rose Society, a love instilled in him by his mother.
“Bud” is survived by three siblings: Marjorie Athey, Mishawaka, IN; Frederick Pattee, Burr Oak, MI; and James Pattee, Grosse Pointe, MI. His sister, Patricia Bohnslav, of Virginia predeceased him in 2014. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who were so helpful with his care and affairs the last few years of his life, notably, Sharon (Athey) Cloghessy of Western Springs, IL.
The cremains will be interred next to his wife’s at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newark, Ohio.
Memorials may be sent to the donors’ favorite charity in Walter’s name.
