Walter “Wally” Schmidt was born on October 17, 1948, to George & Alice Schmidt and he was raised in South St. Louis. Wally entered the United States Navy in 1969; he served in the Vietnam War, and he received an honorable discharge in 1973. After his discharge, he worked in the restaurant business as well as for the City of St. Louis.

Wally loved spending time with his family, especially during the holidays. He also loved spending time and talking to his many friends. Wally had a distinct, contagious laugh and he usually had a smile on his face. Wally’s passing was unexpected and he will be truly missed.

Wally is survived by his two children, Christine Schmidt and Jeremy Schmidt; his siblings, Edward Schmidt & Norine Holt (nee Schmidt); many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Virginia Mell (nee Schmidt) & Helen Lancaster (nee Schmidt).

Memorial service will be held on August 14th at 10:00am at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. All that are able to attend should arrive at the Visitors Center by 9:30am.
