Bill, had a great sense of humor and an upbeat attitude. He was a great work associate that never tired of hunting for candidates. I will remember him with a smile on my face.

Who didn’t love Morty! We had a million laughs and great fun as Sigma Chi fraternity brothers at Illinois Wesleyan. He was one of the best and we’ll all miss him. All honor to his name. In hoc signo vinces, Morty. Rest in peace old friend.
I’m so saddened to hear of your loss. I have so many wonderful memories that still bring a smile to my face. What a wonderful gift to leave behind.
My thoughts and prayers are with each of you,

We were very sad to hear of Bill’s passing. He was a food friend for over 20 years and we always looked forward to his visits to “the valley” and our stopping by to say hello in St. Louis on our way to Michigan. We can picture him now as he is sitting around with his buddies talking baseball in heaven. Rest in peace Bill.
Bill (Morty) was a great Sigma Chi friend during our Ill Wesleyan days. So sorry to learn of his passing-way to soon.

I will always regard Bill (Morty) as a man who was straightforward, witty, and a true and honest friend. I will miss our monthly conversations about our days in the minor leagues, the good books that he had read, his travels to see his family, and some great memories. The day was always brighter after the call.
The world has lost a great communicator and my deepest sympathies go out to the family.
Ann & I were so saddened to hear of Morty’s passing. He was a good friend
& Sigma Chi Brother.
Our hearts & prayer’s are with you all.
To Mary and the Morton Family –
I am so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. We had talked recently and he told me of his hospitalization.
We have been friends and stayed in touch since 1961 when we were teammates on the Lancaster Red Roses baseball team. We also played and were roommates in Tulsa in the Texas League.
After baseball, we enjoyed visits over the years in San Francisco, the Indy 500, Branson, MO, Belleville, and St. Louis. I also enjoyed our telephone calls and Bill’s unique style of sending me news clippings though the mail. With his notes in the margin, he kept me on my toes.
His phone calls would always start with “Did you read in the paper….?” And then we would have a nice long conversation – about current news and past memories.
He would send me detailed itineraries of his trips – and I know he enjoyed the travel and his family immensely.
My condolences to Mary, Peg and his entire family. I will miss “Morty.”
Sincerely, his good friend, Bill Wakefield
I didn’t get much of a chance to see Bill during the years that have passed, but it was always a joy to visit with him when we were able to get together.
He was a good friend and as I write this condolence I think of the two of us and the time we had together as professional ball players.
My prayers and thoughts are with him and his family.

Mary and Family, So Sorry to hear about your loss. I will miss Bill and our conversations about the World of Baseball. I’ve known Bill since 1962 when we roomed together in Billings Mont. He has been a great friend through out the years. I really enjoyed our visit in St. Louis in Sept. of last year. He was a great friend and I will miss him! God be with you during this time of sorrow.
