William F. Block, age 83, of Lemay, MO, passed away peacefully on October
18, 2023 at the DeGreeff Hospice House, St. Louis, MO. Bill was preceded
in death by his loving parents Bernard and Mary Block (nee Rode) and
siblings Bernard, Sylvester “Pete”, Charles, John, Robert “Bob”, and
Richard “Dick” Block and Marcella “Sissy” Ummelmann, Margaret
“Margie” Haddock, and Rosemary “Rose” VonderHaar. Bill was born at the
family home, owned since 1898, and lived there his entire life. He hosted
many wonderful holiday parties and other family gatherings there. Bill was
a proud uncle of his 19 nephews and nieces and their families.

Bill loved to tease, always with a smile and a laugh, and was known by all
for his witty humor. In recent years, Bill enjoyed going for weekend drives
throughout St. Louis and Jefferson counties with his only surviving sister-
in-law, Anna Marie. Their drives often included a tour through Jefferson
Barracks National Cemetery to visit family gravesites and count the white-
tailed deer. Bill was a humble man with simple needs who managed to live
a very fulfilling life on modest means. He took pride in his work as a fabric
cutter in the old garment district on Washington Avenue in downtown St.
Louis. Bill was loved by all, will be sorely missed, and will always hold a
special place in our hearts.

Services: A funeral Mass with be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 27
at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 309 Hoffmeister Avenue, St. Louis, MO
63125, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery. After the
interment, there will be a celebratory luncheon at Royale Orleans, 2801
Telegraph Rd.
